What exactly is a food intolerance?
A food intolerance is not the same as a food allergy. In the case of an allergy, the immune systems becomes ‘confused’ and reacts to one or more compounds in a food. Your immune system sees the food as a harmful substance and produces antibodies. The next time you consume those compounds, an allergic reaction is triggered.
In the case of an intolerance, however, the immune system is not involved. A food intolerance will cause your body to react to certain components in foods. The body is not able to absorb or digest these components and this can cause a number of potential symptoms. One of those is skin irritation.
